In a shocking incident that took place at a local nursing home in Agra, a woman who had opted for In-Vitro Fertilization treatment died during a surgical procedure. The family has alleged that the woman died due to an excessive dose of anesthesia.

According to the deceased woman’s husband Himanshu Yadav, his wife Namita Yadav (36) was a teacher with the Basic Education Department. For the past few years, they had been trying to conceive but did not succeed.

When someone suggested they go for In-Vitro Fertilization, they registered with the Sarkar Nursing Home at Delhi Gate in Agra about two weeks back. They were informed at the time of registration that there will be a small surgery to check the ovaries after which the IVF procedure will be decided.

On Friday, Himanshu came with Namita to the hospital and in the afternoon, she was taken into the operation theatre. After some time, the doctor emerged from the operation theatre and informed him that his wife had passed away during the surgery due to cardiac arrest.

Himanshu claims that his wife was perfectly healthy when she had arrived for surgery. He said that the hospital staff informed him that his wife died due to an excessive dose of anesthesia.

Another relative Ashok Yadav informed that there was blood spilled all over the operation theatre when they went inside and surgical gloves were lying around stained in blood. What was supposed to be a minor surgery, killed Namita.

Talking to Agra24, a senior medico said that it was still too early to comment on what caused Namita’s death. He said that adverse reactions to anesthesia, especially succinylcholine, which is a skeletal muscle relaxant, are rare, but they are not unheard of. In fact, heart arrhythmias and cardiac arrest are some of the known side effects of succinylcholine and other commonly administered muscle relaxants. However, whether succinylcholine was administered to Namita or her death was caused by an overdose of anesthesia, as her family has alleged, is still a matter of forensic investigation.

Meanwhile, Namita’s family has filed a report against the hospital for causing death from medical negligence. The investigation is underway in this matter and Namita’s body has been sent for post mortem by the police.
